Skrillex & dubstep USA

Skrillex, so you either love him or hate him.
Skrillex, so you either love him or hate him.
His style, is brash and unapologetically raw. Metal sounding and in your face ‘don’t fuck with me’/mosh pit dubstep – definitely a world away from the roots of the London swagger and vibe which spawned this worldwide phenomenon. Remember that the roots of dubstep are firmly embedded in reggae, garage, grime, jungle, drum and bass etc. His style is more futuristic, filthy electronic metal. Actually I have no fucking idea what to call it.
Sleaze?
All being said, this obsession that America have developed with dubstep (check the Mixmag piece for an in depth view on the evolution of US dubstep – details here via Mixmag), could be the one that takes London culture to the next level.
Why do I think this?
well, even though it maybe Skrillex that blows up this genre, check it – he has just been nominated for 5 Grammy awards. I reckon in a year or two, off the back of Skrillex, it will be down to a London based producer to blow up the whole UK culture.
Who would that be?
My prediction is that by 2012/2013 Chase and Status via Roc Nation are going to be the modern equivalent of Prodigy and help to shape the future for London and the UK as a force to be reckoned with.
Watch….the rise of dubstep is the beginning of the London/UK takeover.
Remember where you heard it first.

[...] It was by far the biggest rave I have ever been to – it was absolutely rammer jam and Alexandra Palace is a big venue – at at least 10,000 capacity. This is definitely a turning point for London/UK music culture, especially as this self professed ‘bass music’ scene has spawned one of the biggest stars of 2011 – Skrillex and he is taking over in the States.
