DJ Fresh & Rita Ora are number 1!

History was made last night as DJ Fresh hit the number 1 spot in the UK national charts with a Drum and Bass tune, alongside Rita Ora (Roc Nation) for ‘Hot Right Now’.

This is a huge achievement, Fresh is a don. ‘The Pulse, ‘The Nine’, ‘Planet Dust’ are all a major part of his legacy.

However, the vocal really came into play in 2002 with the Bad Company remix of the Rawhill Crew smash ‘More Fire’. This tune along with ‘Shake Your Body’ by Shy FX & T-Power, ‘LK’ by DJ Marky & XRS feat. Stamina MC changed the landscape of jungle from techy rollers to big vocal tunes.

Now we are here in 2012, 10 years down the line after the Bad Company remix of the infamous ‘More Fire’ charted – a UK number 1 – history was made last night. Big up DJ Fresh and Rita Ora!

Saul and Will AKA Chase and Status prepare for their first festival headline show at SW4 festival, by showing off this little tour video of their massively successful 2011 headline tour of the UK.

For those that haven’t seen them live, definitely go out and make a night of it, get smashed and rave it up old skool style.

Skrillex wins 3 Grammy’s!

I have to tip my hat to Skrillex, he is obviously breaking boundaries in the states. It is mad that he is bigging up a London/Croydon bred sound on the Grammy’s.

It is even crazier that he bigs up my friend Dash aka Skism’s label – Never Say Die. Big up Dash every time bro.

I am not a massive fan of Skrillex’s music but I do respect what he is doing stateside for the whole London movement in 2012.

Remember what I said in December. Take heed because it is only going to get bigger and bigger.

Snoop & Dizzee talk on the origins of hip-hop and dubstep. Unsurpisingly it comes back to Jamaica and it’s origins in reggae.

Some random idiot on Twitter tried to tell me that hip-hop has nothing to do with Jamaica and reggae. The ignorance of some people is astonishing.

Anyway big up Diz, this year 2012 – is all about London MCs.

Bloc Weekend 2012 – the return of rave?

This looks absolutely nuts – 2012 is all about the return of rave culture!

As with UKF’s Bass culture brand, it seems like other big events and promoters are using the old skool ethos of large concert venues and industrial spaces to create that ‘rave’ feel with large festival dance acts.
